Aspiring Teachers is a non-profit educational organization. The mission of the Aspiring Teachers is to introduce high school students to non-traditional methods of teaching mathematics and science to younger kids. The students are trained to conduct both live and online math circles and science circles, engage the kids and evaluate young student performance, and coach children for contests in mathematics science and invention. Over the year, the high school students are coached by math and science circle instructors, improve their teaching, logic and inquiry skills, learn to observe young children and adapt teaching according to their observations. They learn how to create and update the learning curriculum, and how to build young children motivation. Students also help organize community math and science events, such as Math Kangaroo Olympiad and Rockville Science Day. The high school students participating in the program get community service hours in addition to learning new skills. Next year, we plan to use the "Art of Inquiry" innovative curriculum, in addition to Math Kangaroo problems, and collaborate with National Association of Math Circles and Math Circles for Teachers Network. |
